Having no son’s to help him in the field he turned to his daughter for help. Willie taught Cookie how to fix all manner of machinery and farm equipment, noticing she had a knack for tinkering he encouraged her gift.
When her father died all of the responsibilities of keeping up the farm fell on her mother’s shoulders. Unwilling for her mother to bare this burden alone she set out for the big city in search of gainful employment. Upon arriving in Steel Town, Massachusetts, Cookie applied for the receptionist position at the Shinning Star Investigation agency. This was the only Colored owned and operated PI agency of its kind in the area. The owner was a young man by the name of Nathaniel Jones (see Black Starr).   Out of a long line of applicants, Cookie out shined them all with her quick whit, resourcefulness and spunk. She was a natural fit for Nathaniel Jones and the Shining Starr Investigation Agency.
Sometime later while cleaning up around the office, Cookie stepped on what appeared to be an uneven floor board which suddenly opened a secret door way that led to an old elevator shaft.  Out of curiosity, she rode down to the bottom of the elevator shaft. When she stepped out from the dimly lit shaft, she found herself face to face with the mysterious champion of justice, the Black Starr. Frightened; Cookie grabbed the closest thing to her and swung it at him trying to knock him out. Black Starr caught it and tried to calm her down. Cookie then began to ask what he did with her employer as well as what he was doing lurking around in their basement. Immediately, Black Starr removed his mask and revealed his identity as her employer Nathaniel Jones. Nathaniel showed her around his hideout and laboratory, very impressed Cookie asked if she could assist him with his future exploits. As the years went by Cookie has proved her self to be a valuable asset to the Black Starr. From technical prowess and machine repair to snooping skills and pretty looks, Beatrice “Cookie” Cooke is the total package.
